Arriv\u00e9e sur site en juin 2018, la sonde s\u2019approche \u00e0 55 m\u00e8tres de l\u2019ast\u00e9ro\u00efde et largue le module Minerva-II 1 et deux minuscules rovers de 1 kg chacun. Ils rebondissent plusieurs fois avant de s\u2019immobiliser. La raison essentielle en \u00e9tait de pr\u00e9lever un \u00e9chantillon de sa surface. Malgr\u00e9 la pr\u00e9occupation de trouver un endroit s\u00fbr o\u00f9 effectuer ce rebond, le robot japonais Hayabusa2 a effectu\u00e9 cette mission avec succ\u00e8s, a touch\u00e9 le sol de l\u2019ast\u00e9ro\u00efde Ryugu et a rebondi. Avant l\u2019impact, la sonde a tir\u00e9 un petit projectile pour disperser la mati\u00e8re du sol et augmenter ses chances d\u2019en collecter quelques \u00e9chantillons. Le mois prochain Hayabusa2 tirera un plus gros projectile sur Ryugu pour pouvoir collecter de la mati\u00e8re situ\u00e9e sous la surface. Vers la fin de cette ann\u00e9e, la sonde quittera l\u2019ast\u00e9ro\u00efde pour commencer son voyage de retour vers la Terre, avec l\u2019espoir de ramener de petits morceaux de cet ast\u00e9ro\u00efde, fin 2020.
