Beaucoup d&rsquo;astronomes, du XVII\u00b0 au XIX\u00b0 si\u00e8cles ont vu Neptune. A commencer par la plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre d&rsquo;entre eux : Galil\u00e9e en 1612 et en 1613. On a retrouv\u00e9 toutes ses notes et ce qu&rsquo;il a vu \u00e0 ces deux dates correspond bien \u00e0 la position de Neptune ces nuits-l\u00e0. Mais il n&rsquo;a pas eu l&rsquo;intuition ou la certitude que c&rsquo;\u00e9tait une plan\u00e8te et a cru que c&rsquo;\u00e9tait une \u00e9toile. Au temps de Galil\u00e9e on ne connaissait m\u00eame pas l&rsquo;existence d&rsquo;Uranus, pourtant plus proche. Il est vrai que Neptune, tr\u00e8s lointaine, se d\u00e9place si lentement dans le ciel qu&rsquo;on peut avoir des doutes. D&rsquo;autres astronomes ont fait la m\u00eame erreur, notamment John Herschel qui, lui, connaissait Uranus (d\u00e9couverte par son p\u00e8re William Herschel). Au XIX\u00b0 si\u00e8cle, beaucoup d&rsquo;astronomes et de math\u00e9maticiens conviennent qu&rsquo;il y a des perturbations anormales dans l&rsquo;orbite d&rsquo;Uranus et qu&rsquo;une explication plausible serait la pr\u00e9sence d&rsquo;une autre plan\u00e8te plus lointaine qui perturberait Uranus par sa gravit\u00e9. C&rsquo;est le fran\u00e7ais Urbain Le Verrier qui fait para\u00eetre des travaux pr\u00e9paratoires que les anglais ne prennent pas au s\u00e9rieux. Le Verrier persiste et, apr\u00e8s deux ans de fastidieux calculs, annonce la position probable de Neptune fin ao\u00fbt 1846. Fort de ces informations, c&rsquo;est l&rsquo;astronome allemand Johann Gottfried Galle qui trouve Neptune (nuit du 22-23 septembre 1846) \u00e0 moins d&rsquo;un degr\u00e9 de la position calcul\u00e9e par Le Verrier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">Voici ce qui a permis \u00e0 Le Verrier de \u00ab\u00a0trouver\u00a0\u00bb Neptune :<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4437\" src=\"http:\/\/gap47.astrosurf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/724px-Gravitational_perturbation.svg_.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"701\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gap47.astrosurf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/724px-Gravitational_perturbation.svg_.png 724w, https:\/\/gap47.astrosurf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/724px-Gravitational_perturbation.svg_-300x234.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">En position (a), la plan\u00e8te ext\u00e9rieure (Neptune) est \u00ab&nbsp;en avant&nbsp;\u00bb par rapport \u00e0 la plan\u00e8te int\u00e9rieure (Uranus), ce qui \u00ab&nbsp;tire en avant&nbsp;\u00bb et donc acc\u00e9l\u00e8re la plan\u00e8te int\u00e9rieure&nbsp;: cette derni\u00e8re sera donc un peu en avance sur son mouvement non perturb\u00e9 (par sym\u00e9trie, la plan\u00e8te ext\u00e9rieure, que l&rsquo;on cherche, est pour sa part \u00ab&nbsp;tir\u00e9e en arri\u00e8re&nbsp;\u00bb de fa\u00e7on sym\u00e9trique). \u00c0 l&rsquo;inverse, en (b), la plan\u00e8te ext\u00e9rieure a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00ab&nbsp;doubl\u00e9e&nbsp;\u00bb par la plan\u00e8te int\u00e9rieure, et la premi\u00e8re se retrouve donc \u00ab&nbsp;en arri\u00e8re&nbsp;\u00bb de la seconde. Cette derni\u00e8re est alors \u00ab&nbsp;tir\u00e9e en arri\u00e8re&nbsp;\u00bb et frein\u00e9e, et est donc \u00ab&nbsp;en retard&nbsp;\u00bb sur son mouvement non perturb\u00e9. C&rsquo;est l&rsquo;avance et le retard d&rsquo;Uranus sur sa position non perturb\u00e9e qui a permis de d\u00e9couvrir Neptune.<\/span> <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">Neptune n&rsquo;a \u00e9t\u00e9 vue de pr\u00e8s que par la sonde Voyager 2 (voir la page sur Uranus) qui nous a fourni les meilleures photos de cette plan\u00e8te. Comme Uranus, Neptune dispose d&rsquo;un champ magn\u00e9tique tr\u00e8s inclin\u00e9 (47\u00b0) par rapport \u00e0 son axe de rotation, lequel est \u00e9galement inclin\u00e9 de pr\u00e8s de 30\u00b0 par rapport \u00e0 son orbite (donc assez comparable \u00e0 la Terre et \u00e0 Mars). Comme toutes les plan\u00e8tes gazeuses, Neptune a une rotation sur elle-m\u00eame tr\u00e8s rapide (16,11 heures). Neptune effectue une orbite autour du Soleil en 164,79 ans et poss\u00e8de 5 anneaux tr\u00e8s fins. L&rsquo;anneau Adams, le plus ext\u00e9rieur, a une particularit\u00e9 d&rsquo;avoir des \u00ab\u00a0arcs\u00a0\u00bb, sortes de sur-\u00e9paisseurs \u00e0 quelques endroits de l&rsquo;anneau (voir photo plus bas). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">La rotation rapide de Neptune associ\u00e9e \u00e0 une rotation diff\u00e9rentielle tr\u00e8s marqu\u00e9e entre les zones \u00e9quatoriales (18 heures) et polaires (12 heures) provoque des cisaillements des vents en altitude. On a mesur\u00e9 sur Neptune des vents \u00e0 plus de 2.100 km\/h !&nbsp; Une \u00ab\u00a0Grande Tache Sombre\u00a0\u00bb (13.000 x 6.600 km), comparable \u00e0 la grande tache rouge de Jupiter \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sente sur Neptune, mais beaucoup moins stable que celle de Jupiter (observ\u00e9e depuis 360 ans) car elle a brusquement disparu. D&rsquo;autres taches apparaissent, puis disparaissent r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement. Comme celle de Jupiter, ces taches sont de gigantesques anticyclones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">Les satellites de Neptune : Neptune compte 14 satellites dont un seul gros, Triton (2.706 km de diam\u00e8tre) d\u00e9couvert quelques jours apr\u00e8s sa plan\u00e8te. Triton pr\u00e9sente une caract\u00e9ristique unique pour un \u00ab\u00a0gros\u00a0\u00bb satellite du syst\u00e8me solaire : il est r\u00e9trograde, donc il tourne dans le sens inverse de la rotation de sa plan\u00e8te. Par contre, il est synchrone, comme tous les gros satellites.
